He attributes his comedic instincts to growing up with his entertaining family. By following the example of his Uncle Michael, a former clown in the Ringling Bros.& Barnum and Bailey Circus™ and his great uncles, founders of the International Juggling Association, Joyce developed his own unique brand of comic charisma without throwing or balancing stuff or getting in or out of a tiny car. As a junior in college, at the age of 19, Jesse was invited by a local band to open their shows. Having been in numerous stage plays, Joyce was up to the challenge. He did well enough to continue performing until this day, though the foreboding possibility of existing footage of that first-ever set haunts his dreams. He soon took the job as barback/janitor at Pittsburgh's prestigious Funny Bone comedy club in the hopes that he might learn something and maybe get a break. Through careful study, and a seething hatred of cleaning urinals, Joyce began perfecting his act. He rose through the ranks and was promoted from toilet scrubber to become the Pittsburgh Funny Bone's house M.C. Meanwhile earning two Best Actor, Best Show, and Best Script nods at Duquesne University's playwriting competition in 1998 and 1999. After a show with him on campus, at the suggestion of SNL's Jimmy Fallon, Jesse made the move to New York to pursue stand-up and improv at the famous Upright Citizen's Brigade Theater in Manhattan. Since then he has been performing stand-up and improv regularly at many of the city's clubs and young alternative comedy rooms. His t.v. appearances include Entertainment Tonight, and Lifetime. He’s been on satellite radio a bunch of times. For the better part of 2003, he was brought on as the head writer for a fledgling comedy cable network called Jokevision by the producers of The Food Network. He wrote, sold and shot a pilot for Jokevision entitled “Stop me if You’ve Heard This” which you will probably never see until an E! True Hollywood Story comes out about his sorted past. He has also written numerous t.v. and radio commercials as well as various print ads. In 2001 he was awarded 2 American Advertising Awards (ADDYs) for his writing. Jessie Writes... Our smarmy, sarcastic brand of observational and trivial comedy, mixed with our short and long form improvisational training, offers unexpected, twisty-turininess you didn’t see commin’ about our life experiences. Topics like the year we spent living in a convent in Ireland, our obsession with useless historical trivia, the pointlessness of our Art/ Art History major,(which you may now be asking yourself is Duquesne a good art school? If you’re asking that, the answer is yes… mostly because if you’ve gotten this far you’re probably our mom) the futility of life in Manhattan, and the stupidity of social deviants everywhere. All of this and more is combined and packaged perfectly into our hilarious act. We love you Mom. His website is: www.jessejoyce.com
